The timeline

It gets harder to fight

Within 30 days you can dispute a ticket on its merits. Once it's in judgment, you first have to ask a judge for a hearing — within one year — and show a good reason you didn't respond in time, on top of a valid defense.

Booting and towing

With more than $350 in parking or camera judgments, the City can boot your car. If you don't pay within two business days, it can be towed — adding tow, storage and other fees. Unclaimed towed cars can be auctioned. See our guide: Booted or towed in NYC.

What to do instead

Send us a photo of the ticket as soon as you get it. We review it free and dispute it if there are grounds. If it's not worth fighting, we'll tell you — and you can pay it before any penalty is added.

Frequently asked questions

Do unpaid NYC parking tickets go on your credit report?
Judgment debt can be referred to a collection agency, and the City can seize assets to collect it.
Can I lose my car over unpaid tickets?
Yes. With more than $350 in judgment, your car can be booted and then towed, and unclaimed towed cars can be sold at auction.
Do parking tickets add points to my license?
No. NYC parking and camera tickets don't add license points.
