1. Look up your plate on the NYC Department of Finance site
The Department of Finance lets you search by license plate (with state and plate type) or by violation number. The results show each ticket, the amount due, and whether it's already in judgment. You can also use the NYC Pay or Dispute mobile app. Or use our ticket check page.
2. Know why a ticket might not show up yet
- Tickets printed by an officer's handheld device usually appear within a few days
- Handwritten tickets can take about 3 weeks to appear
- Camera tickets (red light, speed, bus lane) are mailed to the address on your registration — if you moved, you may never see the notice
Check your plate again a couple of weeks after you think you may have been ticketed.
3. Check every plate type and state
A search needs the right plate type (for example passenger, commercial or omnibus) and state. If you've had more than one plate, or company vehicles, search each one — judgments on all vehicles registered to you count together toward the $350 boot limit.
4. Act within 30 days
You have 30 days from the date a ticket was issued to pay or dispute it before late penalties start. Parking tickets go into judgment after about 100 days, camera tickets after about 75.
Never miss a ticket again
Our free plate monitoring checks the City's records for you and alerts you the moment a new parking or camera ticket appears, so you can dispute it while it's still fresh.
