Got a ticket in judgment?

If an NYC ticket isn't paid or disputed in time, the City enters a default judgment for the fine plus penalties and interest. It can still be fixed — but the clock is running.

When does a ticket go into judgment?

Can I still fight a ticket in judgment?

Yes, in many cases. You can request a hearing after judgment if the judgment is less than one year old. A judge decides whether to grant it, and you must show both a valid defense to the ticket and a good reason you couldn't respond before it went into judgment (for example, you never received it, or you were away or ill). If the hearing is granted, adjournments aren't allowed — so the case needs to be ready.

How we help

Send us your plate number and we'll pull together every open ticket and judgment on it, tell you which ones can be challenged, and file the requests for hearing after judgment for you. For the rest, we can help you pay in the right order to get under the $350 boot threshold. And with our free plate monitoring, it won't happen again.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if my ticket is in judgment?
Look up your plate or ticket number on the NYC Department of Finance site; it shows the amount owed and whether a ticket is in judgment. Or send us your plate and we'll check for you.
Will my car be booted?
Possibly, if you owe more than $350 in parking and camera judgment debt. Booted cars can be towed if not paid within two business days.
Can I get a hearing if my ticket is over a year in judgment?
Generally no — a hearing after judgment must be requested within one year of the judgment date.
Do judgments affect my credit or license?
Judgment debt can be sent to collections and the City can seize assets. Parking tickets don't add license points.
